I look at the world and I notice it's turning,

While my guitar gently weeps.

With every mistake we must surely be learning,

Still my guitar gently weeps.

Private Modern Guitar Lessons for Children and Beginners.

As you know, I play the guitar. I am now officially offering private and group guitar lessons for children or beginners.

Why learn to play the guitar?

A lot of the arguments for learning to play the guitar are the same as they  would be for learning to sing in a choir and you've probably read about that already. Learning the guitar for me was so much fun. You can play the guitar on your own, in a band or with an orchestra so the social possibilities are fantastic from an early stage. Learning also helps improve timing and rhythm, gross and fine motor skills and well as patience and concentration. Throughout my life, my guitar has given me great happiness (and frustration from time to time), triumph, companionship, pride, entertainment, purpose, a popular party piece, a shoulder to cry on and a reliable old friend to turn to in good times and bad (I don't talk to it that much...honestly).

How do I teach?

My aim in lessons is to build knowledge, skills, confidence and a love of the guitar through a balance between challenge and fun. I don't deliberately teach to a graded syllabus although I inevitably cover the same ground. I like to think I give dynamic lessons that cater for what the learner wants to be able to do. This includes theory as well as technique, scales, chords, riffs and songs. When the appropriate level has been achieved and the time is right, graded assessment is an option should you wish to formalise the learning process. This does have advantages as it sets targets in stages and helps to contribute to  a credible and varied C.V. for the future.
